LAND IS
There is a time to be loud and a time to be quiet. Land Is happened when Pittsboro journalist and songwriter Corbie Hill (formerly of Alpha Cop, Where the Buffalo Roamed, Battle Rockets) realized the only way to process especially challenging times was by going quiet. Unlike the deafening intensity of his previous bands, this acoustic-driven collective derives its intensity from intimate, honest explorations of mortality, poverty, family, American society and cancer (Hill has a chronic form of leukemia). What began in 2016 as a solo acoustic project has grown into a collective, with keyboardist Thomas Baucom, percussionist Patrick Edwards and bassist Jack Gudhart wrapping Hill's heartbroken songcraft in enveloping textures and contributing welcome sonic depth.
