M. Cross Dougherty is an ambient musician and producer from Greensboro, NC. Long a fan of sonic atmospherics and blissful textures, Dougherty's upcoming full-length, "Echo 1 & 2," sinks its teeth into that aesthetic and also gives a nod to his inspirations. "Echo 1" begins with a six-minute feedback collage akin to the work of French electronic music composer Eliane Radigue, blending into an undulating wash of guitar, synth, and percussion. While "Echo 2" is a minimal meditation rooted in found sound and experimental frequencies.

The LP was recorded in Greensboro at Hypogeum Studio and engineered and mastered by B. Haran. Dougherty plays everything from the Korg MS 20, Sequential Six, and Moog Grandmother to bowed cymbals and guitar — Haran describes the arsenal as "a big box of crayons for creating."

Dougherty has been writing and performing for years and spent his early career writing delicate Elliott Smith-like folk. In 2010, he started the dream pop/shoegaze band Lake Isle and later performed in the post-rock outfit Sun Swan. Dougherty followed with immersion in his present material — first under the moniker Imprinting, releasing an EP, "Fields," with the Italian label Batenim. Since then, he has released three EPs with the New Age label Heart Dance Records. "Echo 1 & 2" is a creative departure from his Heart Dance material — from Iasos-styled composition to gritty performance-based ambient.

"Echo 1 & 2" will be released in tape and digital format in the spring of 2024.
